Hydraulic Fracture Mapping

FracMap™ is ESG’s hydraulic fracture mapping and diagnosis service. FracMap™ uses microseismic monitoring technology to image and interpret hydraulic well stimulations. Sensor arrays are temporarily deployed down an adjacent monitoring well to detect the microseismic events generated by the fracture treatment. These events are relayed to the surface and processed and mapped using proprietary software to provide operators with detailed interpretation and high resolution 3D images of the fracture’s height, length and azimuth. This information delivered from FracMap™ can be used to:

  • Map drainage patterns
  • Delineate fracture complexity
  • Identify areas of asymmetry and interaction with faults
  • Design future injection strategies and fracture stages
  • Optimize well placement planning
  • Determine proppant movement and possible proppant loss to other adjacent formations
  • Judge effectiveness of proppants, pressures and other parameters

Real-time reporting—FracMap™ is also available in real-time, providing immediate reporting of microseismic activity related to the well stimulations. Preliminary analysis and calculations of microseismic events are performed on the site and reported to the operators within minutes of the data being recorder, thus providing real time images and information that can be used to track and modify the fracture program as it progresses.
