Traditional microseismic mapping services of well stimulations are typically limited to providing the event locations and delineating the dimensions of the treatment envelope. It is ESG’s philosophy that this level of analysis misses significant information that could be used by an operator to improve understanding of local/regional geology and in turn refine future development activities.

ESG goes far beyond simply putting dots on a map. We have developed 2nd generation data processing capabilities that allow us to go much deeper into the microseismic events and ensure that the client is getting the full value from the collected data and gaining a proper understanding of the local stress fields and failure mechanisms.

ESG’s expertise

Following our success in the Cotton Valley Hydraulic Fracture Imaging Project, ESG became the first company to offer microseismic fracture imaging as a viable commercial service. As a continuation of this innovative development, ESG was the first company to:

• Identify interaction with pre-existing fault networks with Mitchell Energy (now Devon)
• Show the relevance of water frac technologies and diverter balls to the frac industry
• Identify the relationship of fracture network to increased production
• Establish the idea of inter-laced fracture networks for fluid transmission
• Obtain individual fracture orientations of single microseismic events and relate them to the overall microseismic spatial-temporal pattern observed
• Define the local stress strain environment creating microseismic events
• Isolate the actual zone of potential production based on microseismic characteristics rather than just the overall fracture dimensions

Based on our extensive experience (well over 1000 stimulations monitored) ESG has developed the tools required to assess the dynamic conditions under any recording situation and is able to quickly provide a monitoring solution.
